Portrait of a young lady was executed in the first half of 19th century and due to the manner of composition was attributed to the hand of German-Austrian painter and graphic artist Johann Frankenberger ( 1807 Hadamar/Hessen-Nassau - 1874 Vienna).

Frankenberger studied at the Fine Art Academy in  Vienna with Joseph Redl, Johann Nepomuk Ender and Carl Gsellhofer (1828 Graf Czernin Prize). conn. active in Limburg an der Lahn (lithograph of Dr. J.W. Bausch, Bishop of Limburg, 1833), Wiesbaden (portrait of the Reg.-President Lichtenberg), Mainz (portraits of Duke Ferdinand von Württemberg;  Johann Ignaz Weitzel, both Lith. in the StA Mainz) and as court painter to the Prince of Solms-Braunfels (Princess Ottilie zu Solms-Braunfels, Lith., 1837). Active in Vienna from 1838. In addition to portraits (Oil, etching, lith.), i.a. by orientals and actors living in Vienna, numerous animal  hunting scenes (The Driven Chase, 1840) and genre scenes (The Disappointment, 1844; Praying Country People, 1845; Narrating Grandmother, 1847; all oil).

Inscription: unsigned.

Technique: oil on canvas. Original period gilt frame.

Measurements: unframed  w 19” x h 24 3/4” (48,5 x 63 cm), framed w 23 2/3”  x h 28 3/4”  ( 60 x 73 cm).

Condition: in good condition, original canvas relined.
