Rural painting with a young shepherdess and geese was executed around 1870s by famous German painter, draftsman, illustrator and caricaturist Friedrich Wilhelm Heinrich Theodor Hosemann (1807 in Brandenburg an der Havel - 1875 in Berlin). For comparison with other similar works by the same artist see our additional images.

Hosemann worked primarily as a genre painter and lithographer. As a drawing teacher to the children of Carl von Brühl, general director of the Royal Theater and later of the museums in Berlin, he found access to the highest circles in the city. In his world of images, the Berlin petty bourgeoisie received far more attention.
