Masterfully portrait of a young gentlman, said to be famous Russian writer Nikolai Gogol (1809 - 1852) created ca.1830-1840 by one of the most renown Austrian genre and portrait painters of 19 century Josef Danhauser ( 1805- Vienna -1845). He studied at the Vienna Academy and became a genre and portrait painter of high society. His works belong to collections of the greatest Austrian museums and museums abroad. Both , the painter and the sitter , could meet respectively in Austria or Germany during Gogol's travels in Europe in 1836 -1842.
