Genre painting with russian winter scene created in 1876 by we-known russian genre and military artist Petr Nikolaevich Gruzinsky (1837-1892).

The pupil of Art Academy in St.Petersburg under B.P.Villevalde (181-1863), Gruzinsky became acknowledge for his military and genre scenes from russian folk life. He was awarded with medalls:  in 1857 -first silver medall, in 1860 and 1862 - second and first golden medalls for Battle work  "Conquest of village Gunib in the Caucasus". As pensionist of Art Academy he travelled to Germany, Italy, France, lived and worked in Paris. From Paris made a few travel to Caucasus, created many studies with caucasian motives, landscapes, travel scenes and from folk live. In the same period he executed genre paintings from live in Paris . The most famous painting from this time: "Rebels´s escape from the village by approach of russian troops"(1872). This work was purchased by russian imperator Alexander II ( now situated in the national russian musem, St.Petersburg). also for this painting the artist recieved title of Academician.He exhibited in the academical exhibitions from 1853. Took part in the World  Exhibitions in London (1872), Vienna(1873), All-russian exhibition in Moscow (1882).

Gruzinsky  belongs to the best represantatives  of russian realistic school of 19 century.His works  are in many russian museen: State Tretjakoff galery, State Russian Museum, Museums of Odessa, Tula, Voronez, Chabarovsk, Krasnodar, Novorossijsk,Sebastopel, Ekaterinburg.

Technique: oil on canvas. Original period wood hand-crafted frame. 

Measurements:  unframed w 12 2/3" x h 9 4/5" (32 x 25 cm), framed w 20 4/5" x h 18 1/2" (53 x 47 cm).
