Important painting , as artist`s study to the famous painting "XENIA GODUNOVA AND THE FALSE DMITRI" was executed by very famous Russian genre and historical painter Klavdiy Lebedev (1852-1916) and depicting the famous subject from the russian history of early 17th century ("Vague time 1613", in Russian: "Smutnoe vremja 1613"). On the back of painting there are different original labels, under others an old letter in Russian with description of the subject; old memory label in German about purchasing of this painting in Moscow 1914, labels of auctionshouse Sotheby´s and old printed copy of the artist`s biography (in Russian). The painting was checked and confirmed as authentical work by Klavdiy Lebedev by experts of Sotheby´s in 2009.

Klavdiy Lebedev graduated from the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. As a professor, he subsequently taught at The Saint Petersburg Imperial Academy of Fine Arts and was appointed the title of academician of the fine arts. He took part in the numerous exhibitions of The Association of Travelling Art Exhibitions (the Itinerants group).

Lebedev is represented in the State Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow, amongst other collections.

Inscription: signed in Cyrillic and indistinctly dated lower right

Technique: oil on wood panel , splendid original period gold-plated frame.

Measurements: unframed 15 1/2" x 11 1/2 " (39,5 x 29 cm); framed w 23 2/3 " x h 19 1/4 " (60 x 49 cm).

Condition: in good condition
