Romantic portrait of a peasant girl was executed by Austrian portrait painter of the middle of the 19th century Johann Nepomuk Gebhard. Gebhard was born in Brno, studied there under Ferdinand Licht and later under Kreutzinger in Vienna. Inscription: signed Johann Gebhardt and dated 1863, lower right. Old label with the biography of painter attached to the reverse

Technique: oil on canvas. . Gold-plated frame.

Measurements: unframed w 15" x 22 1/4" (38 x 56.5 cm), framed w 21 1/2" x h 28 1/2" (54.7 x 72.5 cm)

Condition: in good condition, lined, one small inpainting (ca.1 cm) on the pink skirt, several slight craquelures.
