Important painting "Neapolitan Family Idyll" with resting and dancing peasant family was executed in 1845 by high listed German genre painter Theodor Leopold Weller (1802 Mannheim - 1880) and listed in his list of paintings in the lexicon by Franz von Boetticher " Malerwerke des 19. Jahrhunderts" p. 993 , No. 77 under the German original title : "Hirtenfamilie vor einer Strohhuette mit tanzenden Kinder" . First owner of this painting, as listed in Boetticher Lexicon, was Baron Rothschild in Naples. Theodor Leopold Weller was one of the best genre biedermeier painters in Germany in the middle of 19.century , He studied at the Academy in Munich in 1818-1825 under P. v.Langer . From 1825 to 1833 and from 1840 to 1848 - lived and worked in Rome. Our painting was executed by him in his Rome workshop and depicting the motive from his Italian travells. After Italy he settled in Mannheim, where he became Court Painter and Gallery Director (1851). His special themes were rural genre scenes .His works situated in the City Museum of Brauschweig (INeapolitan peasant scene) , in the City Museum Mainz; In Munich: New Pinakothek and City Museum on Jakobsplatz.
