The author of our work listed Dutch painter and etcher August Le Gras (1864 Amsterdam - 1914 Laren) studied at the Amsterdam Art Academy under Wijnveld and Allebe. In the City Museum A`dam situated his animal and Algiers view , He travelled to Algiers and Tunisia in 1891 ( our painting wasd executed in this period also) and published his sketches from this travell in "Algem.Handelsblad" in Amsterdam (1911-1912).

Inscription: signed lower right, on the reverse of original frame - artist´s original memory label with inscription in Dutch: " No.1, Twilight, Kairouan , Tunisia, August LeGras, Laren.." (town, where he worked and died).
Technique: oil on canvas, magnificent original period oriental style frame, gold-plated.
Measurements: unframed w 19 3/4" x h 23 5/8" ( 50 x 60 cm), framed w 29 1/8" x h 33 " (74 x 84 cm)
Condition: very good, was cleaned by professional restorer. Original canvas, no inpaintings or paintlosses, the original gold-plated frame is in perfect condition. |
