A pair to the painting by the same author, item no. 2817. Genre scene with young bather and background view of Mount Watzmann by Berchtesgaden in Upper Bavaria. This landscape was executed by renowed Austrian Biedermeier landscape painter Matthias Rudolph Toma (1792 - Vienna - 1869). The painter and lithographer, Toma studied at the Viennese Fine arts Academy. As one of the first he dealt with the then new technique of lithography. 1818-1830 he lived in Schaffhausen, where he maintained his own company as an art dealer and lithographer. After his return to Vienna he was here closely friend of Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller . Toma was genre, portrait, landscape painterof time of early Biedermeier Epoch. Special importance, he won by his lithographic works in which he used the new technique for the representation of landscape. In his later years, the influence of Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller is decisive for him by creating landscapes that resemble those Waldmüller much. The motifs for his paintings he sought primarily in the vicinity of Vienna , the Danube floodplains, Bavarian Alps and Switzerland.

His famous works:

* Rocks at Schottwien ( now in Vienna, Österreichische Galerie Belvedere), 1831, oil on wood.

* Snow Mountain landscape (St. Pölten, Lower Austrian Provincial Museum, Inv. No. A 45/79), 1839, oil on wood.

* The Wasserhammerhaus at Hirschwang with view of mount Scheeberg (St. Pölten, Lower Austrian Provincial Museum), 1844

Inscription: signed and dated 1863 lower middle.
