Classicistic scene in the Roman Campagna : beautiful women and children , adorning with flower girlands an ancient monument. This fine work was executed in 1848 by listed French classicistic landscape painter Pierre Antoine Marchais (1763 - 1859 Paris). Exhibited at the Salon de Paris in 1793 -1849. His landscapes in classical manner arrive high estimates by international auctions (until 20000 Euro).

Literature: "General Artist´s Lexicon " by Thieme/Becker; E. Benezit " Dictionary of painters, sculptors, decorators and etchers", Paris, 1999; Bellier u.Auvray "Dict.gen.etc.", 1885.

Inscription: signed and dated 1848 lower left.

Technique: oil on canvas. Magnificent original period gold-plated frame.

Measurements: unframed w 16 " x h 13 " (41 x 33 cm), framed w 13 3/4 " x h 17 3/4" (53 x 45 cm)

Condition: in very good condition, original canvas, no inpaintings or paintlosses, the painting was professionaly cleaned and is ready to hand on the wall.
