Large decorative-allegorical painting was executed in 1873 in the style of famous Viennese "Ringstrassenmalerei", under influence of prominent Austrian painter-decorator of the time Hans Makart (1840-1884). Such large decorations were intended to decorate rich palace buildings, located on the famous Ringstrasse around the center of Vienna.The author of our painting Georg Sturm (1855 Vienna - 1923 Wageningen/Holland), high quoted Austrian artist. For comparison his ceiling painting "The wedding of Peleus and Thetis" arrived in 1992 in Christie's Amsterdam high result 38000 € (hammer price). The artist studied by his father, renowed Viennese decoration and flower painter Friedrich Sturm. Our painting was executed by Georg Sturm in 1873, also during his studies at the famous Vienna Kunstgewerbeschule (Arts and Crafts School) under the guidance of his father, as well as the artist Fr. Laufberger. In 1882 the artist moved to Amsterdam, where began to work at the Arts and Crafts School by Rijksmuseum. He led the historic murals in the lobby of the museum and designed the decorative and allegorical paintings with scenes from the history of Dutch culture for the outside wall of the museum, which were carried out by his pupil J.Visser. Decorative paintings by Sturm are in further trusaal of the City Hall and in the University of Utrecht, and in the train station in Amsterdam. Georg Sturm also worked as a portrait painter.
