This extremely fine Romanticism genre painting was executed in 1839 by one of the prominent German romantic landscape and genre painter Dietrich Wilhelm Lindau (1799 Dresden - 18662 Rome). Our work described in the well-known German monograph by F.v.Boetticher " Malerwerke des 19. Jahrhunderts" (Leipzig, 1895) under No. 12, page 875. The author D.W.Lindau studied first in the academy of arts in Dresden under Ferdinand Hartmann and was promoted by him.In 1821 he went as a Saxon scholarship holder with other German painters (among other Carl Götzloff, Karl Georg Schumacher and Anton Josef Dräger) to Rome where he died at the age of 63 years. He was co-founder of the Ponte-Molle-Society in Rome, the precursor of the German artist´s association of 1845. His paintings situate in the different museums: Leipzig, Oldenburg, Thorvaldsen-Museum and other museums of Copenhagen, Riga, Dresden (Kupferstichkabinett).Ludwig Richter created a etching after Linau painting " Roman pilgrims".Paintings and watercolours by Lindau arrive remark values prices by the international auctions in Rome, London and Germany .
