Classical marine painting by important Dutch seascape artist and drawer Johannes Hermanus Koekkoek (1778 Veere - 1851 Amsterdam). Koekkoek was the head of an artistic family . His sons Barend Cornelis Koekkoek , Hermanus Koekkoek (1815-1882) and Marinus Adrianus Koekkoek (1807-1868) were all successful artists ; the first two specialized in marine art , and Marinus was primarily a landscape painter . His grandson Johannes Hermanus Barend Koekkoek also became an artist . Johannes Hermanus Koekkoek initially trained under Thomas Gaal , working in a wallpaper factory and then became a marine and genre painter. He was active between 1793 and 1851 , studied and worked in Middelburg. 1826 pulled Koekkoek to Durgerdam near Amsterdam , where he lived until 1833. The last years of his life the painter worked in Amsterdam , in 1838 temporarily in Medemblik . In the capital, he found many collectors and participated from 1810 in the annual salons . From his marriage with the coming from Middelburg Anna van Koolwijk were born four sons - Barend Cornelis Koekkoek Marinus Adrianus Koekkoek , Johannes Koekkoek and Hermanus Koekkoek senior - who received the first painting lessons in the studio of his father , and later all devoted to the painting.Honours: since 1810 the member of the Society " Arti Sacrum " , Rotterdam.

Inscription: signed with monogramm H. K. lower left; original metall plaque with the name of the artist, mounted on the frame lower in the middle.

Technique: oil on canvas, luxuriousy antique gold-plated frame.

Measurements: unframed w. 16 1/8" x h. 13 3/8" (41 x 34,5 cm), framed w.25 3/4" x h 23" (65 x 58,5 cm).

Condition: in good condition, profess. restored and cleaned.
