This monumental genre painting with a love couple in the forest was executed by last owner in the Duesseldorf auction house woth the tittle "Tristan and Isolde and is the main work of famous German female painter of Duesseldorf school Adeline Jaeger (1809 - 1897). "Our" work is described and illustrated in the wikipedia in the list of Jaeger's works as "Couple in the forest", signed &dated 1875.

".. Adelheid Jaeger, born in Heuser, alias Adeline (1809 in Gummersbach; today December 17, 1897 in Oberkassel, Bonn), was German portrait, landscape and still life painter of the Düsseldorf school.

Jaeger was born as Adelheid Heuser in Gummersbach. 1831 she was sent to her uncle Carl Christian Jügel to Frankfurt am Main to provide his underage sons after the death of his wife.

in 1834 succeeded her uncle by her desire to become painter, convincing, so he gave her a seat at the Städel Institute, where she studied with the painter Joseph Binder. In 1836 she was allowed to study by Hermann Stilke and Wilhelm Schadow, the Director of the Art Academy in Düsseldorf. On various meetings and celebrations of the Düsseldorf artist painters met Adolph Schroedter, Carl Friedrich Lessing, her future brother-in-law, and Julius Hübner, Eduard Bendemann, Karl Ferdinand Sohn, Johann Wilhelm Schirmer, Theodor Hildebrandt. Élite she was arrived at the end of the 1830s so, that the art historian Hermann Alfred who mentioned it in his book on the Düsseldorf School of painting.

In the summer of 1837 she returned to Gummersbach,where met the Pastor Friedrich Wilhelm Jaeger, whom she married in 1838. She bore him five children, the family moved in 1838 to Cologne, where her husbant joined the Rectorate of newly shared Protestant district and subsequently made a career. From Cologne Adeline could moved occasionally to Düsseldorf, to pursue further her painting in the Studio of Karl Ferdinand Sohn. in 1864, the Frankfurt Art Union exhibited her paintings. Last years after the death of her husband, she lived in Bonn.

Jaeger was a painter, who denied an independent artistic career as a woman due to the understanding of civic roles of the 19th century. Nevertheless received academic painter training occupies a broad space in their memoirs, turned she into an élite of the classicism and realism..."
