Excellent nude painting came from old Viennese collection (see image with collection’s stamp on the back of the painting) and was created in the style with elements of Art Nouveau-Art Deco by the famous Hungarian artist Bertalan Karlovszky ((1858 - 1938). Bertalan Karlovszky (or Karlovszky Bertalan, or Bertalan De Karlovszky, Bartholomäus Karlovszky) was born in Munkács, Hungary in 1858. While attending the Military Academy in Budapest he painted a portrait of his commanding officer, which impressed him so much that they sent Karlovsky to study at the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich, where he studied under Otto Seitz. Later he spent a year in Paris studying with Mihály Munkácsy and began exhibiting genre paintings at the Salon. In 1894 he returned to Budapest producing illustrations, portraits and nude paintings. in 1921, he had a major retrospective at the Hall of Art in Budapest. For many years, he operated a painting school, and n 1928 he became a Professor at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts.
