Typical example of the representative of Barbison School, French landscape painter Louis-Emile Lapierre ( Paris 1817-1896). Pupil of Jean Victor Bertin (1767-1842), he exhibited regularly at the Salon from 1837 to 1876. He obtained a second class medal in 1848 and was appointed Knight of the Legion of Honor in 1869.In the summer of 1837 (according to Joubin, t.I, p. 438), Delacroix asked Lapierre to correct the drawings of Solange Sand, as he did for those of Maurice Sand.
