Portrait of a young beauty with a flower in her hair was executed in 1872 by good-listed Austrian potrait and history painter Gustav Gaul (1836 Vienna - 1888 Mödling by Vienna).

Gaul received his first lessons from his father; Gaul was a student at the art academy in Vienna. His teachers were there Robert Theer (watercolor painting) and Carl Rahl (history painting). After five years, Gaul left the art academy, went on a study trip to northern Italy and later spent several weeks in Dresden to study the Venetians. In 1855, Gaul was invited to present some of his pictures at the World Exhibition in Paris.

This was followed by several study trips through France and the Netherlands, of which he brought many landscape sketches, which were found in his historical pictures from time to time. This was followed by several study trips through France and the Netherlands, of which he brought many landscape sketches, which were found in his historical pictures from time to time. One of his greatest commissioned works was the decoration of a hall in the Palais Todesco in Vienna. On behalf of the banker Eduard von Todesco, Gaul created a ceiling painting in tempera with the train of Bacchus and scenes from the myth of Cupid, Psyche and Venus.

In his genre pieces there is a turn to French models, which he developed in the colors. His portraits contain many important personalities from the Vienna Burgtheater.
