Masterfully still life with peonies and glagiols in a ceramic vase was executed by listed French portrait, flower and still life painter Charles Philipard. The artist was born in Auxerre, pupil of Lesourd de Beauregard. Worked and exhibited his fruit and flower works in Paris (Salon de Paris in 1863 - 1868).

Inscription: signed on the later cured canvas piece, mounted to the back of the stretcher.
