Masterfully genre scene at the well in a old town was executed by renowned Austrian genre painter Johann Hamza (1850 in Teltsch, Moravia - 1927 in Vienna).
Hamza was a student of the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts under Eduard von Engerth and settled in Vienna. Together with others he led Viennese genre painting to a second boom in the 1880s. He mostly painted small-format pictures with novelistic content. From 1888 he became a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus.
