Great hunting painting with roebucks in the autumn forest was executed by famous German hunting, animale and landscape painter Josef Schmitzberger (1851 in Munich - after 1936 Munich).

After training with his father, a gemstone cutter, he attended the Royal University of Applied Arts in Munich. He then studied from May 4, 1868 at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich.After completing his studies, he worked as a hunting, animal and landscape painter in Munich. He exhibited his works in the Munich Glass Palace. His pictures also often appeared in the "pavilion". Schmitzberger was a member of the Munich artists´ cooperative.In Herrenchiemsee Palace, he made animal pictures for the ceiling of the blue salon.
