This magnificent still life with fruits, parrot, rabbit and Guinea pig was executed in 1838 by renowned painter of fruit and flower stilleres in the first half of 19th century Leopold von (van) Stoll (b.1808). He was active in Austria, around 1828 - in Warsaw and Cracov and in 1830 - 1834 - in St. Petersburg, where he was busy designing floral arrangements for the Botanic Gardens. In St. Petersburg Academy he was elected to the " designated " , and in 1831 was awarded the title of academician for the painting " Flowers and fruit group". In 1834, the artist came back to Austria to get a popular acclaim for his wonderful flower paintings and fruits. The Ermitage in St.Petersburg has a few his still lifes and flowers paintings in its collection ( Cataloque of Ermitage , 1901) and Viennese Schönbrunn - his still life with the statue of the nymph Egeria.
