Large modernist painting ”Untitled” was executed in 2002  by good listed Austrian contemporary painter Josef Schwaiger (born 1962 in Linz) .

Josef Schwaiger has been working on a very complex body of work with a focus on abstract painting for more than three decades. In addition to large-format canvas paintings, his work includes drawings on fiberglass sandpaper, watercolors and gouaches, lacquer editions, art in architecture, art in public spaces and artist books.

From 1982 he was a student of art and crafts education (painting area with Peter Prandstetter) at the Mozarteum University Salzburg, then called the Mozarteum University of Music and Performing Arts in Salzburg, where he completed his teaching qualification in 1988.

In 2004 he moved the center of his life and work to Vienna. Today Josef Schwaiger lives and works in Vienna and St. Valentin, Lower Austria.

Josef Schwaiger worked as Erwin Bohatsch's assistant at the Academy of Fine Arts for three years.

Since 2022 he has been teaching at the Academy of Fine Arts as part of the painting workshop, whose courses range from teaching the basics of painting to in-depth material and technical analysis.

The focus of his artistic activity is painting itself, the intensive examination of the material used, pigments and binding agents, their structure and properties. Schwaiger accompanies the creation, transformation and erasure process of his painting media and places this at the center of his work.

Schwaiger's works are represented in numerous public and private collections and libraries , banks in Austria, USA, Europe and South Africa.

Schwaiger's works are not only perceived as abstract images, but they also offer aesthetic appeal. An alchemical-scientific approach can be found in all his works; Only a few painters deal so intensively with color physics. Schwaiger has knowledge of the structure of the pigments, their qualities and their idiosyncrasies and knows how to use them.
