Masterfully genre scene was executed by good-listed and high-quoted Austrian painter Johann Till the Younger ( 1827 in Vienna - 1894 there). His works arrive high results (until 114 000 €) in the international art auctions (see our last 3 images).

He received his first training from his father, Johann Till the Elder (born 1800 in Hohenstadt, Moravia, died January 23, 1889 in Vienna), who primarily painted genre scenes. Johann Till the Younger studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna from 1841 to 1847 and from 1849 to 1865. From 1852 to 1858 and from 1860 to 1862 he attended the master school under Leopold Kupelwieser, by whom he was significantly influenced. From 1862 to 1865 he attended Christian Ruben's master school.

In 1849 he received the Lampi Prize. He made numerous trips to Italy, Germany (Düsseldorf) and France. His genre scenes, which demonstrate his preferences for detail and color, were exhibited at the Art Academy in Vienna. He was a sensitive observer of his surroundings. He also often painted farm animals. His brother Leopold Till was also a well-known painter.

In 1847, Johann Till the Younger exhibited for the first time at the annual exhibition of the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. Between 1851 and 1872 he was mainly represented at the exhibitions of the Austrian Art Association. Johann Till the Younger dedicated himself with particular dedication to genre painting and history painting. From 1870 Till was a member of the Vienna Visual Artists' Cooperative ( Künstlerhaus ).

The Vienna Belvedere has 26 works of art by Johann Till the Younger. For example, “Self-Portrait as a Dominican,” “Godfrey of Bouillon Welcomes the Promised Land (1854),” “Returning Crusaders.” The painting “Marzellin Ortner defends Klosterneuburg” is in the Red Salon of Klosterneuburg Abbey. The work “Flower Decorations for the Crucifix” was auctioned at the Vienna auction house ImKinsky in 2017. “A Flower Greeting” was auctioned at the Dorotheum auction house in Vienna in 2014, “The Plundering” in 2015 and “Two Crusaders Find Dead Pilgrim in a Rocky Desert Landscape” in 2016.
