Large nude painting was executed in the early 20th Century by Good listed German painter and etcher Wilhelm Hempfing ( 1886 iSchönau (Odenwald - 1948 iKarlsruhe).
Wilhelm Hempfing was a master student at the Karlsruhe Art Academy under Friedrich Fehr. He also learned etching and printing techniques in Karlsruhe from Walter Conz. Hempfing was given special importance in National Socialism, and between 1937 and 1944 he was represented with several works at the official Great German Art Exhibition in the House of German Art in Munich. At least one of his works was purchased by Hitler, namely, according to Henry Picker, the nude "Seated Blonde", which bore a striking resemblance to Eva Braun.[2] Also, according to the "NS-Tageszeitung Mannheim und Nordbaden", the painting "Portrait of a Girl", also at the Great German Art Exhibition in Munich in 1938.[3] His oeuvre mainly includes landscape and nude paintings, but also portraits and flower paintings. Hempfing was also very productive with his own etching technique, which was strongly influenced by W. Conz.

He undertook study trips to southern Europe (Balkans, Italy, Spain), North Africa, Brittany, Denmark, England and the north German coasts (Sylt, Samland, Rügen and Usedom). Hempfing also made a name for himself as a graphic artist and book designer.

In addition to the exhibitions in the Haus der Kunst, Hempfing was represented in many major art exhibitions (Berlin, Hanover, Glaspalast Munich from 1911, Karlsruhe, Baden-Baden, Vienna, Zurich).
