A pair of flower gouaches in the modernist manner was executed in 19309-1940 by good listed Austrian portrait and illustration painter and lithographer Hans Strohofer (1885 - Vienna - 1961). He studied at the Viennese Art and Craft School from 1900 to 1902, since 1902 - pupil of Franz Cizek, and from 1902 to 1908 by Otto Czeschka and Kolo Moser. From 1908 to 1910 he was assistent by Kolo Moser and from 1905 to 1916 - teacher at the art school. From 1916 to 1918 he performed military service. He devoted himself to portrait painting in particular and created some miniatures on ivory. From 1911 to 1913, he painted a large tier for the Hütteldorfer Villa of the of the Chief Architect Otto Wagner. For the Austrian State printing house, he created designs for postage stamp series. He exhibited in 1927 on II. International Exhibition for Modern Graphics in Florence. He received 1927 the Salo Cohn - Prize, 1949 recieved the title Professor and 1955 the Golden Lorbber of the Wiener Künstlerhauses. Since 1921 member of the Künstlerhaus and the artist union "Old world".

Literature: "Dictionary of Austrian Painters of the 19th and 20th Centuries" by Dr.H.Fuchs, Vienna 1972.

Inscription: each signed with famous artist�s monogram H.S. and dated 1940 and 1939. For proof of signature see additional image from the Dictionary by Dr.H.Fuchs.

Technique: each: gouache on paper. Original period frames.

Measurements: first: image w 9" x h 12 1/3" (23 x 31,5 cm), matted and framed w 18 1/8" x h 18 1/8" (46 x 46 cm); second: image 10 1/4" x 12 1/3" (26 x 31,5 cm), matted and framed 18 1/8" x 18 1/8" (46 x 46 cm).

Condition: in very good condition.
