Old-Viennese view from Upper Belvedere palace garden was executed by wel-known Viennese veduta watercolour painter Paul Kaspar ( 1891 - 1953). Paul Kaspar studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and was part of a group of Austrian artists who continued the traditions of the 19th century. His works impress with their level of detail and precise execution, where he also managed to capture the moment and mood of his motifs.Kaspar´s favorite motifs included the famous buildings in Vienna´s city center, in particular St. Stephen´s Cathedral and the Hofburg, but also rural-romantic motifs of the Vienna suburbs. Mountain motifs are less common. His preferred technique was watercolor, with an influence by Rudolf von Alt being unmistakable. Kaspar mainly painted for the Viennese bourgeoisie, but also accepted public orders, so he received u. a. the order of the city of Baden to artistically document the opening of the thermal beach pool there on July 24, 1926. Works by Paul Kaspar are always offered in auction houses, so that many objects are privately owned.Provenance: purchased by previous owner in the Gallery Maegle, Palace Harrach, 1010 Vienna.
