Nice genre scene with a noble chess-players was executed in the end of 19th century by renowed Hungarian genre painter Lajos (Ludwig) Bruck (1846 Papa - 1910 Budapest ). The artist studied by Geiger and Wurzinger at the Viennese Fine Art Academy since 1862. In 1869 he recieved State scholarship and travelled to Italy , where he studied in Venice by Molmenti; 1873 he settled in Paris. His salon genre scenes broken him acknowledge in France and England. He mooved to London, where he created genre and portraits works too. Later he lived in Budapest, where he arranged his first personality exhibition in 1873. In the same year he exhibited in Vienna and since 1880 - many times in Salon de Paris. Most of his genre works found their owners by English and US American collectors. Our work has also an American provenance. In Museum of Budapest situated few paintings by him.Provenance: private collection in Texas/USA.
