Interior genre scene with a nobleman holding a sword was executed by good-listed Spanish painter Salvador Sanchez Barbudo (1857 Jerez de la Frontena - 1917 Rome). At the age of eleven, he entered the Jerez Secondary School. At nineteen, he moved to Seville to study at the Provincial School of Fine Arts. In 1878, to expand his knowledge, he traveled to Madrid, where he remained for about four years.
In 1882, he traveled to Rome, supported by his patron, José Juan Fernández de Villavicencio, Marquis of Castrillo, and became friends with Villegas, whose disciple he became.
He married Elena Monichelli in Rome.
In 1879, he traveled to Tangier to develop his work with José Gallegos Arnosa. He died in Rome on November 28, 1917.
In 1997, art scholar Juan M. Rodríguez Pardo organized an anthological exhibition of Sánchez Barbudo's work in Jerez. A street in Jerez bears his name.
