Modernist portrait by listed Swiss painter, glass painter and and graphic artist Oscar Cattani ( 1887 Stans - 1960 Lucerne). Studied decorative arts from 1903 to 1905 at the Technikum in Winterthur. From 1905 to 1907, he trained as a decorative painter in Lucerne. He then studied again from 1907 to 1908 at the Knirr School in Munich; from 1908 to 1912 at the Kunstakademie (Art Academy) in Munich with Martin Feuerstein and Angelo Jank. From 1912 to 1913, he traveled to Italy, helping to restore mosaics in Ravenna. In 1913, he studied at Acad. Julian in Paris. In 1914, he became a drawing teacher in Immensee. From 1915 to 1917, he was a professor of art history, decorative composition, and graphic arts at the Technikum in Fribourg; from 1920 to 1933, he was a professor at the Ecole des arts appliqués in Lausanne. He created numerous works. Religious murals (including frescoes), altarpieces, mosaics, and stained-glass windows for churches and chapels; also still lifes, figurative works, and portraits (in oil and watercolour). His prints (historical, pictorial, and lithographic) include especially religious motifs and more than 100 designs for flags. He also illustrated Dante's Divine Comedy and a school textbook.
