High qualitative Russian icon executed in the late 19th century and depicts Saint Alexander Nevsky and Saint Martyr Agrippina of Mineo.
Alexander Yaroslavich Nevsky (Russian: Александр Ярославич Невский (c. 1220 in Pereslavl-Zalessky; † 1263 in Gorodets) was a prince of Russia from the Rurikid dynasty. He is considered a national hero of Russia and a saint of the Orthodox Church.
Agrippina of Mineo, also known as Saint Agrippina (flourished in the 3rd century, died in 262), was venerated as a virgin martyr in the Catholic Church and Orthodox Christianity.
The Holy Martyr Agrippina of Mineo is an early Christian saint, a Roman who dedicated her life to God and was martyred for her faith in Christ during the reign of Emperor Valerian. She is venerated by the Russian Orthodox Church on June 23 (July 6). Her life describes the torments to which the girl was subjected for her confession of faith and her miraculous release from bondage by an angel. Her relics, transferred to Sicily, brought numerous healings.
Her feast day is celebrated in the Orthodox Church on June 23.
Patronage: Mineo; invoked against evil spirits leprosy, thunderstorms, bacteria.
Inscription: Above the figures are the names of saints in Church Slavonic; on the back of the icone in Polish a stamp and label with gift inscription "Congratulations...”, both indistinctly.
Technique: wood, gesso, tempera, gold leaf, enamel.
