Despite the lack of a signature, this portrait of Austrian composer Franz Schubert (1797 - 1828) is a typical work by listed Austrian painter and illustrator Rudolf Pöpl ( 1861 - after 1914), who was popular with portrait of composers on the turn of 20th century. He studied at the Fine Arts Academy , lived and worked in Vienna in the late 19th/ early 20th centuries.

Inscription: unsigned.
Technique: oil on canvas, laid down on cardboard. Original period gilt frame.

Condition: in fairly good condition, original canvas is crackled.
