This watercolour depicts William Hall Walker, 1st Baron Wavertree DL on horseback (1856 – 1933), the famous British businessman, Conservative Party politician, art collector, and an important figure in thoroughbred racehorse breeding.
The author of this painting is famous Scottish painter , caricaturist and illustrator George Algernon Fothergill (1868-1945), the master of sporting portraiture , who also contributed caricatures published in Vanity Fair under the pseudonyms "GAF".
