Original coloured etching , dated 1975, by Ernst Steiner ( 1935 Winterthur , Switzerland - 2024 Vienna), the represntative of the Viennese Fantastic Realism School.
From 1955 to 1959, he studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna under S. Pauser and A. P. Gütersloh. From 1990 to 2000, he was a lecturer in Friedensreich Hundertwasser's master class.
Born in 1935 in Winterthur. From 1950 to 1952, he attended painting courses with Bruno Bischofberger; from 1951 to 1955, he apprenticed as a graphic designer in Zurich and studied figure drawing at the School of Applied Arts under Franz Fischer. In 1955, he moved to Vienna. He continued his studies at the University of Applied Arts under Franz Herberth and Eduard Bäumer, and at the Academy of Fine Arts under Albert Paris Gütersloh and Sergius Pauser.
He also studied music with Josef Mertin, which played a structural role in his artistic work. Close ties to painters of the Vienna School of Fantastic Realism; from 1963, assistant at Ernst Fuchs's painting school.
Attempts to explore and interpret the meaning of reality defined Ernst Steiner's work from the very beginning. He received groundbreaking impulses from the work of Marc Chagall and Alfred Kubin. In 1968, he moved to Niederfladnitz Castle (Lower Austria), and in 1976 to Arnolz in the Waldviertel region. In 1984, he became chairman of the newly formed artists' group, the Association of Waldviertel Artists. In 1986, he returned to Vienna.
From 1990 to 2000, he was a lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, in Friedensreich Hundertwasser's master class.
Study trips since 1956 to Finland, Ireland, Scotland, Norway, Italy, England, France, Egypt, and other countries. Numerous exhibitions and participation in exhibitions in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, France, Brazil, Denmark, Belgium, Spain, and other countries. Participation in art fairs and biennials in Basel, Brescia, Düsseldorf, São Paulo, Hanover, Cologne, Vienna, and other countries.
