Episode from WW1: Battle of Porto Corsini on 24.05.1914, Austrian Destroyer „Schrfschütze“ shells Italian redoubts.
The Battle of Porto Corsini took place on May 24, 1915, the day after Italy declared war on Austria-Hungary. It was a naval and land attack by the Austro-Hungarian Navy on the Italian Adriatic coast near Ravenna. Key details: Ships involved: The speed cruiser SMS Novara (under the command of Commander Miklós Horthy), the torpedo boat Tb 80, and the destroyer Scharfschütze.
Course of events: The destroyer Scharfschütze entered the narrow channel of Porto Corsini and was unexpectedly drawn into a direct firefight with Italian riflemen and beachcombing trenches.
The author of this military work is Ladislaus Tuszyński ( 1876 Lemberg, Galicia - 1943 Vienna), famous Austrian caricaturist, illustrator, and animator.
He achieved widespread fame as the illustrator of the front page of the Kronen Zeitung for approximately 40 years. In total, he created around 12,000 illustrations and caricatures during his lifetime, also for other print media. Along with Peter Eng and Louis Seel, he was also responsible for the majority of animated animation in Austrian silent films.
