Extremely rare view of Esterhazy Castle Forchtenstein in the Austrian province Burgenland with Lake Neuesiedl in the background.
The imposing Forchtenstein Castle is the landmark of the Rosalia-Neufeld Lake District region. Perched atop a dolomite rock, it greets visitors from afar.
It has been owned by the Esterhazy princes since 1626.
This romantic landscape painting was executed in the first half of 19th century and due to the very close similarities of manner, subject, composition and time of creation was attributed to the hand of well- known German Romnticist Carl Rottmann ( 1797 Handshuhsheim/Pfalz - 1850 Munich). Rottmann created a few works with Austrian mountain views in this period, it's known, for exemple , his view of the lake Gosaussee with mount Dachstein (1841) or mountain range by Salzburg.
