Large and qualitative portrait miniature of a gentleman was executed by Pierre Daubigny (1793, Paris.  - 1858, Paris). 
The uncle – and presumably also teacher – of the landscape painter Charles-François Daubigny, Pierre was one of Aubry’s students, in whose studio he met his future wife, Amélie. The couple were married in Paris in 1829. Some of his miniatures were probably the result of a collaboration with his wife since their works are stylistically barely distinguishable. Pierre exhibited at the Paris Salon between 1822 and 1855.

Technique:  gouache on organic wafer, original period inner gilt bronze frame and external gilt frame.

Measurements: image w 4" xh  4 3/4" (10 x 12 cm), matted and framed 7 1/2" x 9 1/4"(19 x 23,5 cm).

Condition: overal good.
