This nice flower painting with brunch of roses was executed in 1894 by good listed Spanish painter LUIS GRARITE Y TEJADA (Málaga, 1858 - Málaga,1901).
He began his training in 1872 at the School of Fine Arts in Málaga, where he was a student of Bernardo Ferrándiz. Between 1872 and 1901, he participated in various provincial and regional competitions and also in the National Exhibitions held in 1878 and 1895. Specializing in small flower paintings, he followed the style of Ferrándiz. He received awards from the very beginning of his training, being awarded an honorable mention in the Barroso Prize in 1875 and winning first prize the following year. His painting "El Cenachero" (The Basket Maker), which he presented on the occasion of the visit of Alfonso XII, was the second most voted. In 1877, he received the "Color" prize for the best students of the school. He participated for the first time in a National Exhibition in 1878 with the painting "Escuela de Baile" (Dance School). In 1880, he participated for the first time in the City Hall Exhibition with "La Calesera" (The Carriage Driver). In 1895, he participated in the Madrid exhibition, changing his traditional subject matter to studies of flowers, a theme he would later explore at the Liceo Exhibition in 1899. He won a first-class medal at the 1901 Exhibition and another at the Academis Exhibition in 1916. Grarite, who died insane, is represented in the Museum of Fine Arts in his hometown and in the one in Badajoz.
