He was József Bem's battlefield painter in the Transylvanian campaign. He was a friend of Sándor Petőfi and painted his portrait ( now in the National Gallery in Budpest). He was only able to study painting regularly after the 1848 War of Independence. He worked in several cities, including Kolozsvár, Szatmárnémeti, Eger and Nagybánya. Travelled to Austrian Alps regions. He mainly painted landscapes, portraits and altarpieces . In addition to Petőfi's portrait, he also painted portraits of several prominent figures of the 1848 War of Independence. The Hungarian National Gallery holds several of his works in the Hungarian public collection.
