Unusual still life with different writing desk items: ink set, old folios, letter, seal wax, candlestick, matches, and a bell. This painting was executed around late 18th- beginning 19th centuries  by us unknown painter.  On the cover of one of the books can be read the title (in German): "Grundriss der allgemeiner Geschichte". 

Inscription: illegible monogramm  on the sealing wax; on the back of the stretcher - antique inscription, illegible.

Technique: oil on canvas, original period gilt frame.

Measurements: unframed 15" x 11 3/4" (38 x 30 cm), framed 20" x 17 1/4" (51 x 44 cm).

Condition: good.
