The miraculous icon of the Mother of God "Abalakskaya" (Abalatskaya). The relic of the Epiphany Cathedral in Kurgan. Painted in the second half of the 19th century by a novice of the Novodevichy monastery in Moscow Natalia Valikova (according to the inscription on the back), consecrated in the Abalatsky Convent. Origin from the Trinity Cathedral in Kurgan, blown up in 1957.
Inscription: under representation of Maria and Jesus are figured of Saint Nikolaion the left and Blessed Mary of Egypt ( inscribed In Cyrillic Пр. Мария Е.) on the right; on the backside of icon isinscription in Cyrillic: Москва, в Новодевичьем монастыре писала послушница Наталья Валикова ( in English: Moscow, in the Novodevichy monastery painted by novice Natalia Valikova); and also a bronze coat of arms of Russian Empire, mounted to the wood.
Technique: tempera, gold on wood.
Measurements: w. 10 1/2" x h. 12 1/4 (26,5 x 31 cm).
Condition: overall good, a small not deep vertical crack in the middle from lower edge ca.2,5 cm.
