Portrait miniature of a young officer of an Austrian infantry regiment 1848, half-length, in a white coat with red collar. This masterfully miniature was executed by one of the best Austrian miniature painters of first half of 19th century Emanuel Thomas Peter (1799 Jaegerndorf - 1873 Vienna). From 1818 he studied at the Vienna Academy, at first architecture and then miniature painting under the famous Moritz Michael Daffinger. He copied a lot of Daffinger´s miniatures with such artistic skill, that it is often impossible to distinguish between copies and originals. After a stay in Silezia Peter returned to Vienna in 1830 and became there one of the leading miniaturists. His best works were created between 1830 and 1850.
